Most of the medical colleges in India provide Post Graduate courses in various subjects. These are either Master of Medicine (MD) or Master of Surgery (MS). Thus one can do MS in Surgery or MS in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) or MD in Internal Medicine or MD in Dermatology. There are also few Medical PG Colleges provide post-doctoral courses which are described as MCh or Magister Chirurgiae and Master of Medicine or DM. There are also fellowship courses available in various disciplines in many PG Medical Colleges in India.
M.D. (Doctor of Medicine)
Doctor of Medicine is a 3 years postgraduate degree in medicine. M.B.B.S. Graduates are eligible to for this course. This program is a specialized program in general medicine. A doctor after successful completion of this course is eligible to work as a Physician.
M.S. (Master of Surgery)
Master of Surgery is is 3 years postgraduate course for degree in surgery. M.B.B.S. Graduates are eligible to for this course. A doctor after successful completion of this course is eligible to work as Surgeon.
Postgraduate diploma program in medicine is offered by various medical colleges or institutions across the country for MBBS Graduates. The duration of the program varies from 2 to 3 years.
